Bio...
I was born in Vancouver B.C. and have lived in the Lower Mainland all my life.
I work as a Registered Nurse at B.C. Women’s Hospital in the Diagnostic Ambulatory Program.
I’ve always had an interest in crafts and sewing. I am the original owner of a Singer toy sewing machine. I also have several other Singer sewing machines one is a model 99 and the other is a 127. My brother and his wife gave me a hand crank Frister & Rossman as a Christmas gift!
Travel and photography are also great loves of mine and I will have some of my photos from past trips around the world. I will also share with you some favorite quilt shops I’ve gone to on my many driving holidays.
I came to quilting by first making mohair teddy bears. I took a class from Jean Paccagnan-Armes to learn how to make a jointed teddy bear and I was hooked. I’ve made more than 30 bears, ranging in size from 2 7/8” to almost 3 Feet tall. I have designed 5 bears of my own. Most of these bears are still in my possession. I have given some away as gifts to family and friends. I entered one of my bears in a competition at a local quilt shop and ended up teaching classes for them for a short while.
Stitches ‘n’ Things had a Wednesday night drop-in group that focused mainly on quilting and cross-stitch [another love of mine]. Through this group of ladies I joined the Fraser Valley Quilters’ Guild and then Pacific Spirit Quilters Guild. Through these two guilds I’ve met some remarkable friends who are gifted in the art of quilting. I now belong another guild, Lions’ Gate Quilters’ Guild.
I’ve been quilting now for 11 years and still love doing it. In 1998 my brother gifted me with a computer for Christmas and through a friend found the quilting news group Recreation Crafts Textiles Quilting [RTCQ]. This opened up a whole new world of quilting.
In 1999, in preparation for the turn of the millennium I joined a fabric swap. Unfortunately most of my fabrics are still in plastic bags waiting to become blocks, but they will one day. Through this group I’ve met friends in Canada, USA, England, South Africa and Europe. I love to travel and post travelogues on our newsgroup and have been crowned Queen of the Travelogues. One of these travelogues was published in the Canadian Quilter’s Association Magazine. Please take a look at the article. The photos were taken on that trip.
I’ve also had the opportunity to go to Houston and attend the Quilt Show in 2002, I hope to attend again this year 2004. Many of my RTCQ friends attended and it was fun putting faces to names on a computer screen.
I hope you enjoy looking at my quilts, crafts and photographs. Please take the time and explore some of my RTCQ friend’s links and also those of my quilt guilds.
Many thanks to my nephew Cody for his hard work in designing these web pages. |
